This article is about how the Italian government is going to set higher consequences for people who make fake news and put it out there. The consequences include fines and prison sentences. The fake news could ruin their government. They say that the fake news could damage the public interest or cause alarm to the public.
This is important because it could be undermining the democratic process. Fake news could ruin the country. If they pass this bill it could drastically impact their government and prevent any possible future threats or false information on the internet.
I feel like this is a good thing that they are trying to do something about this issue because I wouldn't want to live in a country where I am reading something on the newspaper or seeing something on the news when it is false. I wouldn't feel safe and I bet that the people in Italy don't feel save knowing that people are putting fake news on the internet for the world to see. Who knows if one day they say that there is going to be a terrorist attack or something and then it turns out to be fake, I wouldn't want to live in that country knowing that Im being lied to.
